Kyrene Centennial Campus Improvements

Several major projects are underway at our school, and we are working with the district to determine the safest way for all work to be completed and ensure minimal disruption to daily learning. Centennial students and staff are temporarily relocated across the parking lot to the Kyrene de la Colina Elementary School campus for the 2026-27 school year.

Our team is working closely with the district to ensure a smooth process, clear communication, and thoughtful planning every step of the way. We will continue sharing details about logistics, timelines and what to expect in the months ahead.

Project Scope

Improvements will include work on the mechanical yard and HVAC systems, roof replacement and updates to paint and flooring. These are common projects on school campuses, but they are typically spread across multiple years, to minimize disruption. However, the availability of the Colina campus next year provides an opportunity to complete a significant amount of work in a single year.

Mechanical Yard

  • Full replacement of the central plant (chillers, cooling towers, piping, and controls)

  • Replacement of approximately 70 heating and cooling units campus-wide

  • Restroom ventilation system upgrades
  • New ductwork and related equipment
  • Upgraded gymnasium air distribution system

Safety Improvements

  • Life safety upgrades and structural repairs

  • Plumbing infrastructure improvements

  • ADA-compliant restroom renovations
  • Classroom and interior modernization
  • Central kitchen renovation
  • Weatherization improvements
  • Access control system updates
  • Lighting and audiovisual upgrades

Student and Staff Safety 

While most of Centennial will be closed and secured during these improvements, select areas on the middle school campus (including the gym, multipurpose room and certain elective spaces) will be completed over the summer and available for safe student and staff use during the 2026-27 school year.

Funding

Funding for the Centennial Middle School campus improvements will come from the District's Capital Budget in addition to voter-approved bond dollars. The vast majority (93%) of Kyrene bond funds go directly to support school facilities.
