AVID - Advancement Via Individual Determination
Welcome to Centennial AVID!
AVID is...
AVID, which stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a college readiness program designed to help students develop the skills they need to be successful in college and their career. The program places special emphasis on building skills in writing, critical thinking, teamwork, organization and reading.
AVID is an in-school academic support program that prepares all students for college and career readiness and success. It is implemented schoolwide by using WICOR strategies. WICOR stands for writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization and reading.
The AVID Elective class (7th and 8th grade) is for students willing to work hard to be successful in middle school, high school, and beyond. The elective students should be goal oriented and working toward taking more rigorous classes with the AVID supports of organization, time management, and tutorials. AVID elective students must be committed to good school attendance and good school behavior. The 7th and 8th grade AVID elective is a year-long class.
AVID Application 2025-2026 - only for students entering 7th or 8th grade
Students entering 6th grade should reach out to their grade level administrator or Mrs. Redshaw (jredshaw@kyrene.org) to express an interest in AVID. 6th grade AVID is an introduction to AVID and is only a semester long.
